night photos

These are a little series of camping out in an old wool shed at tarcutta. I thought it would be a nice oppurtunity to have a go at some more open night shots. Its hard with my camera to get sharpe night images but I was happy with the composition of the shots and some of the interest the positions of the figures, light and the blurr and movement made. Its really hard to get a blue heeler pup to sit still while the camera uses a longer shutter speed.

These are some indoor night photos with a focus on a light source.I took these in the loungeroom at home to ptactice with the light source and night mode on the camera.

movement photos

We are practising managing camera settings, changing the apeture and shutter speeds to capture things in motion. Either organising a crisp image or one that is slightly blurred showing the movement.
This first one is an example of blur. The camera is set at 1/60 shutter speed and 22 apeture. Need practice with changing the shutter and the light meter, and also the areas that can be in or out of focus. The top images I took at the rodeo, just using my little pentax on sports/action mode. The trees was taken in a moving car, set on auto, again using the little pentax. The photo with the car was practice with setting the canon on manual mode. Getting the apeture and shutter speed right to get a clear photo with a blurred object.

self portrait photos

Took some photos that were meant to be self portraits, but taken ourselves so they didnt have to be a posed figurative or facial shot.
I found the reflections good to work with. This one was taken on an angle atanding in front of the rear vision mirror of the car. I like the various frames, and dimensions.

I took this one in the car using the sunguard mirror as a source of reflection. Was really hard not to get the camera in the shot. I like it because its so plain apart from the small area of clarity and interest.

The one below is taken from the desk in my room while I am working. Its not really technically aesthetic but I like the crookedness, the different angles and the depth.

business cards

The above are examples from the net used by various individulas such as designers, hairdresses, studios, and small business owners.
These are some business cards I had to design. Used some of my scanner art and edited night photo. Doesnt feel very creative though. Would like to practice drawing some designs and adapting those.

SCANNER ART

'brush and tied'. Slowly tied and moved the brushes along the screen.

This weeks project was to create a self portrait through scanning objects and a part of ourselves like our hand or face. I chose to use fairly random objects, choosing an old protea, a pine cone, an apple, some old bangles and bracelets, a woven ball, painbrushes, and some white small origami cranes. I chose them because they are all organic shapes and structures, and they are all a part of my personal space and experiences. This was a fun assignment, allowing for mistakes and play.My favourite is 'Poly'. Just because it's different to the others, the objects made a nice composition, and there's movement in the image.

'treasures'. Placed my objects, and framed them with the grasping position of my hands.
'Poly'. Rolled these three objects along the scanner.

These three are cropped sections of the one scan with the paintbrushes and string. We had to find different compositions within the one picture. I liked the warps, colour and texture that became evident through the close up crops.

mailboxes

These are the final images from the 30 photographs that were taken of my very boring old letter box in Leeton. Got lots of strange looks from the neighbours but I was happy with some of the end results that emerged from a letter box contrasting with its surroundings and positioning.

We had to take 30 shots of a very mundane object or situation such as this everyday lightpost in the Tafe courtyard. The idea was to get as many different shots as we could, then cull them down to eventually 3 that were appealing and able to be tweaked on photo shop. These are the three I ended up with.I liked the leading lines the angle of the lighpost created, reacting with some of the surrounding buildings and objects. Its as if its looking in different directions. Still very fresh with the touch up techniques, but I'm happy with the contrast I got.
