Installation photo shoot
Social Commentary Theme; Animal Neglect.
Proposal:
My idea is to display the process some animals go through as they are taken into homes as an ideal present, only to be forgotten about and neglected as the novelty wears off, or circumstances change. Often animals are treated as toys with no regard to their wellbeing or eventual outcome as they grow older. Many ending up strays, abandoned and malnourished.
The installation is designed to tell the story of a journey from treasure to trash. How the idea of a pet is taken for granted ending in despair for the animal. I am hoping to create two similar yet opposing scenes. One will depict a happy Christmas time, with ornaments, and an adorned box with a puppy jumping out. The other will again use a box that is being used as a home for the dog, with a tattered rag, newspaper , old bone ect.
The Christmas box needs to be bright, well lit and possibly higher than the homeless box. The homeless box should be lower, and darker, exaggerating the differences between the two scenes and the emotion that they provoke. There could be two different environments and levels within the one image.
The pup and the dog will either be created with silhouetted cardboard cut outs or a soft toy that can take different forms and positions.
Props Needed:
Two medium sized cardboard boxes
Extra cardboard
Rags and blanket
Newspaper
Red ribbon
Christmas baubles
Toy Dogs
Cut Outs
Old Bone
Dog toys
Plinth/ Table
